Expert shed light on specifics of Belarusian diplomacy: the republic does not want to escalate conflicts and quarrel with neighbours

Belarus is geopolitically placed in the centre of Europe, and it is surrounded by God-given neighbours. The country has also never tried to quarrel with the latter, and this is the peculiarity of Belarus’ diplomacy.

In his talk with Alfa Radio, the Dean of the Journalism Department at the Belarusian State University, political expert Aleksei Belyaev, said that Belarus – unlike many other countries – is trying not to take rash and controversial decisions, but to maintain peaceful relations. Because of this, the republic is often accused of being softly, but this is not true. “We are often told with bewilderment: you were attacked in some way, but you remain silent and do not react. This is a feature of Belarusian diplomacy. We do not want to escalate conflicts, we do not want to contribute to a new fire in Europe and to quarrel with our neighbours. After all, we understand that we have to live with the latter,” Mr. Belyaev noted.

Belarus is interested in friendly and mutually respectful relations with other nations. It is no coincidence that the President of Belarus has repeatedly said that the republic sees the difference between the state, the government and the people of Poland. The Belarusian leader also addressed the Ukrainian people. “We perceive Poles as friendly people, as our neighbours – who cannot be chosen, as you know. It is important to build at least polite, respectful relationships with them. It is not necessarily to feel love, but there should be respect," the expert stressed.
