Expert: Polish society quite xenophobic, reluctant to see migrants in the country

The new Polish government will continue its refugee-unfriendly policy – as noted by Aleksei Belyaev, the Dean of the Journalism Faculty at the Belarusian State University, in his talk with Alfa Radio

The expert noted that the current Polish government is guided by the sentiments of the majority of Poles in relation to refugees, “The general Polish moods are such that the population does not really want to let refugees in. The Poles had difficulty in accepting Ukrainians who are close to them historically, racially and, so to speak, genetically. It is difficult to distinguish a Ukrainian from a Pole by appearance. But even so, the attitude of the majority of the Polish people towards Ukrainian migrants is quite bad.”

Aleksei Belyaev is confident that in this situation, not a single Polish government will dare to accept refugees from remote regions, “They won’t accept refugees from the East, from Africa, primarily because this is unacceptable by Polish society. It’s quite xenophobic.”
