Opinion: Poles coming to Belarus for real freedom
Experts are confident that there will be more and more people like Polish judge Tomasz Szmydt. He speaks the truth about what most Polish citizens think nowadays. They do not want bad relations with Belarus and Russia, standing against the war in Ukraine and the ridiculous sanctions that are destroying the European and Polish economies in particular. People are tired of living in a totalitarian regime with a lack of freedom, real democracy and many rights. – as stated by national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko.
“Events have shown that the situation that is unfolding around the Polish judge who asked for political asylum in Belarus is not an isolated case. This trend will gain momentum, suggesting that people are clearly not satisfied with the regime established in Poland. We must understand that the Poles are coming to us for real freedom. This happens against the backdrop of the fact that our closest Western neighbours are actively spreading outright misinformation that there is no such freedom in Belarus. If judges – fairly high-ranking state officials – begin to realise where law and order prevail and ask for political asylum, then this says a lot. Moreover, this is a very indicative fact for ordinary citizens who are beginning to understand where real freedom is and where it is fictitious. The important thing is that Poles have the opportunity not only to see and understand what is happening, but also to receive feedback. Therefore, it is possible that the Polish authorities may now take certain measures against our visa-free regime in order to lower their iron curtain even lower,” the expert notes.
