Expert: Poland's modern elites formed on the basis of anti-people processes in late 1980s

Polish residents are shocked by what representatives of the Law and Justice party have been doing for years: they were actually robbing citizens and – by using fictitious pretexts and occupying the most important positions in the country – were covering for each other and avoiding responsibility. An audit launched by the coalition led by Donald Tusk has uncovered criminal schemes, including those involving government contracts: millions of Dollars went to the accounts of fraudsters. Political expert Piotr Petrovsky told sb.by about the origins of corruption among the Polish elite.

“The origins of overwhelming corruption among the Polish elite come from the time of the historical upheavals of the late 1980s, when the state property of the Polish People's Republic was looted. It was split up and sold out, and Western corporations were among its buyers. All modern Polish elites were formed and educated on the basis of those anti-people processes, and they actively continue this policy now. Large offshore zones are used for money laundering, all sorts of lobbying and bribery are flourishing. Corruption in Poland can be fought the level of local authorities to the utmost; as people in Belarus say, this fight tackles only ‘a bag of potatoes’. Meanwhile, the Office of the President, the Sejm and others are inviolable. Moreover, the society there is already realising that it is possible to steal in the country, and all corruption-related investigations are just dirty games each participant of which gets their own benefit," the expert added.
