Expert on Trump-Musk duo: falling out is inevitable
The US President elect Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk believe they are on a mission, but that can endanger their country, Vadim Gigin, Candidate of Historical Sciences, House of Representatives MP and General Director of the National Library, told Alfa Radio
As Mr. Gigin pointed out, the relationship between Trump and Musk came under scrutiny recently.
Mr. Gigin warned, however, that the zealous approach Trump and Musk employ in their belief that their mission is to change America and bring about a new world is dangerous.
“Musk believes in his mission, and that belief had started even before he became part of Trump’s team. Other key figures in their circle also share the same belief. So, there’s a group of people who are convinced they are God’s chosen politicians. That is extremely dangerous, because when people believe in their mission to the point of fanaticism, they are ready to cast any limitations aside, and that is a nuclear power we are talking about,” he concluded.
On the future of the Trump-Musk relationship
“Musk is going too far, they are openly saying and writing that in America. How tolerant Trump is going to be of such behaviour remains to be seen, but there’s another thing to consider: he’s an old man while Musk is much younger. I wouldn’t say for sure Trump is going to cut Musk loose immediately, but a falling-out between them is inevitable. If Musk pushes too hard, it could cause tensions, just as it happened during Trump’s first term when he constantly re-shuffled his officials,” he said.
On Musk’s role in the administration
The speaker further made a point that the influence Musk wields is greater than that of many high-ranked officials, “There are about a dozen people who are allowed free access to Trump’s estate in Florida, and Musk is one of them. The influence he wields, even without an official mandate, is greater than that of the Vice President, or any other member of Trump’s administration. In practice, he’s going to manage the American bureaucracy and optimise its function. If we go by his declared authorities, the fate of any public servant in the US is going to depend on him. That is enormous power.”
On Trump’s and Musk’s mission: creating a new world
The historian believes the partnership with Musk is convenient for Trump, “Musk was born outside the US, so he can’t run for President. The role he plays in Trump’s policies is strategic, though. Musk has a lot of power, but he’s not a competitor. That’s an interesting dynamic we should keep an eye on.”
On the dangers of political zealotry
“Musk believes in his mission, and that belief had started even before he became part of Trump’s team. Other key figures in their circle also share the same belief. So, there’s a group of people who are convinced they are God’s chosen politicians. That is extremely dangerous, because when people believe in their mission to the point of fanaticism, they are ready to cast any limitations aside, and that is a nuclear power we are talking about,” he concluded.
