Expert on Lukashenko's attitude to corruption: thanks to his position, Belarus remains a state for its people
Thanks to Aleksandr Lukashenko's tough stance on corruption, Belarus remains a state for the people – as noted by Olga Shpilevskaya, the Director of the Mir TV and Radio Company representative office in Belarus, in her talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel
The Chairman of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company, Ivan Eismont noted that Belarus cannot be called a corrupt country, and Olga Shpilevskaya explained, “This is because we have a tough position of the Head of State on this issue. In 2020, we stood our ground also because, among other aspects, we had no oligarchs, people who kept huge sums and who earned money in different ways, who were mostly afraid of losing it (rather than worrying about the nation’s fate). Since the President has such a tough position, we actually have a state for the people, and their interests are being protected.”
Commenting on the recent meeting with the leadership of the Council of Ministers, during which Aleksandr Lukashenko again warned government servants about the inadmissibility of corruption, the expert stressed, “People from other CIS states – who watch meetings with the Belarusian President’s participation at which he focuses at such corruption-related problems – always support such an approach in talks with me. They say it is right that there is a master in the house who really does not allow corruption or other illegal things to run rampant. Everything is very correct and fair, and people support this policy.”
