Expert on destruction of air targets from Ukraine over Belarus: Kiev regime carried out provocation
Ukrainian air targets were destroyed over the territory of Belarus and Russia on August 9th, and Oleg Gaidukevich, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, commented on the incident
The expert stated that the Kiev regime had actually carried out a provocation against Belarus, “I think it had two goals. Firstly, it envisaged strikes on the territory of Russia and, secondly, checking of the combat capability of air defence. We demonstrated that we will not tolerate violations of the law in relation to our country, its territorial integrity and airspace. All the targets were shot down. We showed that our air defence is effective, and we also demonstrated that, within the framework of the Union State, we will never allow a blow to Russia in the back – something that Belarus’ President has repeatedly voiced. We showed that Russia and Belarus act jointly and as a unified air defence system, because a number of targets, as Aleksandr Lukashenko and Belarus’ Defence Ministry informed, were taken under the control over the territory of the Russian Federation, where they were shot down by Russians. In short, we work together, and our work is well-organised.”
The MP added that Belarus does not act according to the scenario of the West, “We are well aware that they want to involve Belarus in the conflict, which is extremely unprofitable for Russia. It is beneficial for it that we guard the western border, ensure that a blow to its back is not struck. We actually ensure this in full at present, taking into account the strengthened military power, tactical nuclear weapons, air defence systems and the enhanced protection of the border. The President has given specific instructions to the Defence Ministry and special services today to strengthen various directions and parts of our country. This work continues, everything is being done, including in co-operation with the Russian Federation.”
“We know perfectly well what kind of scenario the West has in terms of Belarus’ involvement [in the conflict]. We will act according to our scenario with Russia, and not succumb to provocations. Once again, I would like to repeat the thesis that if some party forces its way into the territory of our country, the President has today showed that he keeps his word. No need to play jokes with him. We do not want a war, but it's better not to come to us [with bad intentions]. Our enemies should be aware of this,” Mr. Gaidukevich stressed.
