Expert on Belarusian President’s warning and future of the world

The world is on the verge of the grandest events, and it is very restless. Addressing the guests at the reception organised on behalf of the President of Belarus on occasion of the Old New Year, Aleksandr Lukashenko clarified: we are in a situation that is like walking on thin ice, and just a single careless step could make us go down. In his talk with Alfa Radio, Aleksei Belyaev, the Dean of the Journalism Department at the Belarusian State University, analysed the Belarusian leader’s words.

The expert emphasised that the Head of State never makes irresponsible statements, and all his words always get confirmation – i.e. his warnings with regard to Ukraine.

Speaking of the present situation, Mr. Belyaev noted, “Of course, the expansion of the Ukrainian conflict into a more full-scale one [is likely]. Just a couple of days earlier, some German analysts made a statement that Germany may be involved in a direct military conflict with Russia in 2025, and it is even possible that the summer of 2024 will be a turning point if Ukraine does not receive sufficient support from the United States and the European Union. Russia will not agree on any negotiations or concessions in this case. At present, for example, both the United States and NATO (as an independent military and political unit) believe it is impossible for them to experience defeat in Ukraine. Differently speaking, Ukraine is like the last outpost for them. For some reason, they consider that – if Ukraine loses and Russia manages to establish normal relations with it and create a friendly political regime there – this will be a complete failure of the West. Although we see that this means only the expansion of the aggressive ambitions of the collective West.”

In this regard, Mr. Belyaev paid attention to the behaviour of the North Atlantic Alliance and its former promises, “In the late 1980s, NATO promised not to expand to the East, but it is already present there. It already voices an intention to make Ukraine and Georgia its members, and so these states are being attracted in all possible ways. We see that NATO has not refused, but rather strengthened its opinion that it needs to continue its expansion. We see that about 360 thousand military troops are stationed on the borders of Russia and Belarus, dozens of exercises are held annually to work out the mass transfer of additional equipment and weapons, including from overseas. Nuclear bombing and other aggressive actions are being trained. Actually, someone needs it if all this is being done.”

“With this in view, we should give proper respect to the foresight of Belarus’ President, who stationed strategic nuclear weapons in the republic as a deterrent. That decision has already significantly calmed down – though not fully – those in the West,” Mr. Belyaev added.

Meanwhile, the United States has moved to intensify confrontation, and the events in the Middle East fully prove this. “Everything that is happening now is because the United States does not want to lose its already formal leadership. We see that the United States does not enjoy the authority in a significant part of the world. As regards the politicians, some of them are still forced – due to some deterrent factors – to curtsy towards the United States. People are already openly saying that Americans are the main problem of our world. The United States does not want all this, so it uses the principle of ‘worse for the whole world is better for Americans’ in its activity,” the expert summed up.
