Expert on Belarus’ 2024 results: security, economy, stability
Security, economy, stability
“The year [2024] was all right,” he said.
My first point would be that Belarus was able to stay away from the war that’s unfolding very close to us, virtually on our borders.
"Yes, there were tensions on the Belarus-Ukraine border, with Ukraine even deploying troops; the military situation was on the edge. We, however, did not take the bait, took measures to ensure our security, and the tensions went down. We avoided a war,” Mr. Shpakovsky explained.
Another factor mentioned by the MP was the internal stability Belarus managed to preserve.
“Despite the continuing hybrid attacks on the Belarusian public consciousness and enormous money our adversaries spend on information and psychological warfare in our space, the 2024 Single Voting Day when people elected local deputies and the House of Representatives’ members at the same time, was a convincing win for the patriotic forces,” he said.
The government is in control of the internal policies, and the current Presidential campaign is another proof of that: it’s going on in line with Belarus’ national interests.
Another factor was the economy.
Contrary to the outside pressure and the draconian sanctions imposed by the West and expanded throughout the year, as well as to our opponents’ attempts to hinder or block our foreign trade, the Belarusian economy grew nearly 4 percent. That is above the global average!
“Of course, there are still issues there, some companies are facing difficulties,” continued the expert. “We have to draw a map and work with every single one of them, just like we are working with Belarusian regions under the One District – One Project initiative. But on the whole, our economic development did not stop, and that trend is stable. Even the IMF and the World Bank predict that the Belarusian economy will keep growing in 2025, because they realised their forecasts should be based on reality, not on wild guesses.”
Those were, Mr. Shpakovsky concluded, the three pillars that made 2024 a good year for Belarus.
“We are expecting the positive trends to deepen in 2025!” he added.
