Expert: NATO plans to turn Eastern Europe into nuclear shield for Western countries
The situation around Belarus is of particular concern today: many countries, including neighbours, are behaving aggressively, there is a real arms race, the principle of indivisibility of security is ignored. In his speech at the meeting of the Belarusian People’s Congress, President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised that Belarus already faces NATO on its western borders. Moreover, in conditions of the continuing militarisation near the country, the number of states wishing to deploy nuclear weapons on their territories, primarily in Europe, is also growing. Experts are speaking of a scenario when the United States divides the European part of NATO into two blocks with different military tasks. Military expert Igor Chibisov commented on the issue.
“The Eastern bloc is planned to become a striking and offensive force with appropriate infrastructure, including reconnaissance. These are Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. As part of the Ukrainian crisis, most of these countries are already involved in military training, logistics, production and repair of equipment. It is also planned to gradually re-equip this Eastern flank with American weapons. A belt of American air defence systems is also being deployed there to cover Western countries from a Russian strike in the event of a nuclear conflict. Differently speaking, Eastern Europe is actually being turned into a shield, which will have to take on all the main damage, while the countries of Western Europe should not suffer – they just pay money," the expert explained.
