Expert: MPs of Belarus, Russia provide tangible support to national economies
It can be confidently stated now that Western sanctions contribute to strengthening trade and economic co-operation between Belarus and Russia – as noted by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, Sergei Khomenko, at the 13th session of the Interparliamentary Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Interregional Co-operation held in Minsk recently
“Since the beginning of this year, the trade turnover between our countries has amounted to 2.7 trillion Russian Roubles, which is 8.5 percent more than in the same period last year when our mutual trade demonstrated record results. As you know, it is always more difficult to grow when the foundations are already solid. However, our economies, our regions, and business entities demonstrate the opposite," Mr. Khomenko said.
As noted by the MP, the annual Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, organised by the upper chambers of parliaments of both countries, makes a worthy contribution to the positive dynamics of co-operation. Mr. Khomenko recalled that the eleventh forum was held this June, and it was organised in three cities of the Vitebsk Region at once for the first time: Vitebsk, Polotsk and Novopolotsk.
“Following the results of the forum, commercial contracts were concluded for a record amount of 140 billion Russian Roubles. 250 documents on co-operation were signed. Accordingly, even under the conditions of sanctions, the parliamentarians of Belarus and Russia, through such events as the Forum of Regions, provide tangible support to national economies and our governments which continue their systematic work on the further construction of the Union State,” Mr. Khomenko added.
