Expert: key G20 countries see great prospects in BRICS
The key G20 countries see greater prospects in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) than in G20 – as noted by the Doctor of Political Sciences Genry Sardaryan, the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Politics at Moscow’s State Institute of International Relations, in his talk with the Soloviev Live channel
The G20 Summit will be held on September 9th-11th in the Indian capital New Delhi in a face-to-face format. China has officially confirmed that Xi Jinping will not take part, but the country will be represented by the Premier of the State Council, Li Qiang. Russian leader Vladimir Putin will also not go to the event. The Russian Federation will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“It is not very clear why this G20 format remains, not to mention G7. It is obvious that the key G20 countries see great prospects in BRICS, which is expanding and creating new opportunities. Look at the attitude of the People's Republic of China. The Chinese President said he would not take part in the G20 Summit. The President of the Russian Federation is also not going to participate. Evidently, the organisation is being reformatted," Mr. Sardaryan said.
The expert drew attention to the position of the host country, India. “It has categorically rejected the prospects of politicising the summit. The Ukrainian leadership insisted that some statements be made and that there be a speech by [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy, but it was clearly indicated that, firstly, Ukraine is not a member of the organisation, and, secondly, India (as the host party) decides for itself who to invite from among non-participants. The discussion of issues related to foreign policy at the G20 Summit does not correspond to its main goals and objectives,” he added.
