Expert: idea to declare 2023 Year of Peace and Creation belonged to Belarus’ President, and it was bold
In conditions of the tensest military and political situation developing in the world, Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko declared 2023 the Year of Peace and Creation at the end of 2022, thus assuming enormous responsibility – as stressed by Vadim Gigin, the Director General of the National Library of Belarus, in his talk with Alfa Radio
As noted by Mr. Gigin, experts offered different names for 2023 to the President – such as Teacher’s Year, Year of Knowledge, and Year of Quality, “However, the Head of State proposed to name 2023 the Year of Peace and Creation, and that was exclusively his choice. Just recall the tense military and political situation that was developing in November-December 2022. By voicing his decision, the President took on a tremendous responsibility – as a politician, as Belarus’ Head of State! Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed all Belarusians then: ‘Live in peace, while my task was to ensure your safety. Work hard, as there will be peace, if the economy functions well’. This is how everything has developed.”
The expert added that Belarusians finished 2023 with good economic results, ensuring the security of their borders and peace on their land, “We are confidently starting the new year, and this is the main achievement. Just imagine the tremendous job done by the President and his team.”
As noted by Mr. Gigin, ordinary Belarusians also contributed to the positive end to the Year of Peace and Creation, “This is the result of all of us, the nation as a whole. However, these goals, these tasks are determined by our leader.”
