Expert: Germany is major loser in Ukrainian conflict
Gabor Steingart, the former managing director of Handelsblatt Media Group, said that Germany is becoming a less protected and respected country because of the Ukrainian conflict, and this makes it the major loser (apart from Ukraine) in the conflict with Russia, TASS reports
According to Mr. Steingart, it has already become clear that Germany ‘will be the major loser’ in the Ukrainian conflict. He noted that Germany is being deprived of security, prosperity and reputation in the world as a result of ‘a military exchange of blows’. The journalist explained that Germany has reduced the volume of trade with Russia, while the strengthening of relations between Russia and China will bring no good to the German export industry.
The expert added that the protection of the United States, under which Germany has been throughout its post-war history, is weakening. According to him, the country must adapt to life ‘without an American guardian’. In this regard, Mr. Steingart called on the German authorities to rethink foreign policy by including a diplomatic component in it.
