Expert explained why Belarusian fugitives form terrorist cells
For those who use Belarusian fugitives to form terror cells, the objective is to destabilise the region. Political expert Vadim Borovik explained to Alfa Radio who benefits from that.
Previously, Head of the Investigation Department at Belarus’ State Security Committee (KGB) Konstantin Bychek said that Belarusian fugitives in Poland are being used to form terrorist cells, aided by GROM special forces units.
“They weren’t able to stir up a political campaign that would have resulted in a coup ‘d’état (whether peaceful or bloody) and a power grab. Now, their curators are unwilling to give them any more money just for promises and vague political initiatives like the issue of funny passports. They explained they would only finance specific operations that would help destabilise Belarus through terror, sabotage, and so on. Scenarios vary,” said Mr. Borovik.
According to the political expert, those who pull the strings on those plans want to destabilise the region, not lead Belarus to a brighter future.
“The collective West wants to destabilise the region. And Belarus, of course, is like a thorn in their side. Despite the sanctions pressure, our country keeps developing, it follows reasonable foreign policies, it does not provoke any conflicts, quite the contrary, we are always for de-escalation and finding a middle ground. The West does not want that. Washington has been financing Poland very generously in the recent years, and that’s where they get their instructions from. So their objective is to destabilise the region. And from the strategic planning point of view, destabilising Belarus would be very helpful if you want to weaken the Russian Federation, for instance. We warn our partners that we know about that, we won’t hesitate to give a tough response to those attempts and will do whatever it takes to stop terrorist activities,” he added.
Mr. Borovik also made a point that Belarus’ objective is preserving peace, avoiding instability, and continuing its peaceful and steady development.
