Expert: CAR T-cell therapy in oncology 100 percent effective for certain lymphomas

CAR T-cell therapy, a sophisticated technology not used in the neighbouring countries, has shown excellent results in Belarus for certain types of lymphomas – as noted by Deputy Director for Research at the Alexandrov National Cancer Centre Sergei Krasny

“It refers to genetic modification of T-lymphocytes, enabling them to perceive specific cells of malignant tumours,” noted Sergei Krasny. “We examined patients who developed resistance to malignant tumours after a huge number of chemotherapy cycles. In fact, their life expectancy did not exceed a period of two months. Twenty-five patients received CAR T-therapy – effective in 100 percent cases – and almost 90 percent went into complete remission.”
