Expert: Belarus should not knock on the door of countries where we aren’t welcome
Belarus is ready for equal co-operation, but we should not knock where we are not welcome – as stated by political scientist and candidate of historical sciences Vadim Yelfimov, who heads the Department of Social Policy and Ideology at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus, in his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel
The expert noted that our President is currently visiting the countries where we are welcome and which want to be friends with us.
“There’s no sense to go where we aren’t welcome. It is not our choice, but theirs. Maybe one day the West will grab its head, or something will happen there, and its position will change. But again, it has to happen with them. We should not knock anywhere. We should do our job. And we will be attractive to all those who appreciate equal interaction, co-operation, etc. We should turn our backs to everyone else,” he added.
Commenting on the current relations with the West, Dean of the BSU Faculty of Journalism, political scientist Aleksei Belyaev stressed that Belarus has repeatedly called for dialogue, “Belarus and Russia have always promoted dialogue, knocking on every door. Our President was proposing this to the Europeans at every occasion. Russia offered to make a distinction and to stop till the last, including December 2021. But they don’t want to hear anything. They bend their line, continuing to view themselves as hegemons, gendarmes of the world, arbiters of grace. They do not understand that there is another point of view, another opinion, and other people’s interests that must be respected.”
