Expert at IGF-2023 in Minsk assessed Belarus’ steps in mastering Internet standards
The Internet Governance Forum Belarus IGF-2023 in Minsk has brought together representatives of the government, business, non-profit organisations, technical and academic communities, as well as ordinary Internet users. Vahan Hovsepyan, External Relations Officer (Central Asia and Caucasus) with the RIPE NCC, speaking with journalists, noted that the Belarus IGF will help to understand how we can jointly make the Internet better.
“Each participant must be important in their role. The role of the state is in one, the role of the technical community in another, the role of industrial partners in the third. But it is impossible to work and develop the Internet, to ensure stability and security without co-operation. Now the very essence of the Internet has changed. Moreover, it is becoming a driving force of the digital world in order to provide communication, the ability to work. It’s a world where there are many dangers and many opportunities. For countries that have limited funds, trade problems and landlocked borders, the Internet becomes a window, providing an opportunity to border with other countries, receive a different type of medical care and training. Meanwhile, we must understand that this is also an opportunity to receive new cyber threats. It is necessary to move to new Internet standards, which is still a problem in the whole world. However, several years ago, big steps were taken in Belarus to ensure that these standards were widely used. I think this area will actively develop in the next few years.
