European Parliament to motion for new sanctions on Russian oil tankers

The European Parliament has drafted a resolution calling for new sanctions against tankers carrying Russian oil, including a motion to block these vessels from entering the English Channel, TASS reports

The European Parliament ‘Calls on the Commission to take action […] to cooperate closely with the United Kingdom on measures to prohibit Russian ‘shadow fleet’ vessels from accessing the English Channel’.

MEPs also plan to call on other nations that control the straits to take steps to restrict movement of vessels carrying Russian oil.

The draft resolution emphasises that, so far, all attempts by the EU and its allies to impose price caps or other limitations on Russian oil sales have failed.

The resolution will be put to the vote at the European Parliament session scheduled for late November.
