Estonia wants to rent out places in prisons

The Estonian Justice Ministry intends to propose to the Government of the country to sell prisons and rent out places there for foreign prisoners to serve their sentences in order to save money, TASS reports

The Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs of Estonia, Liisa-Ly Pakosta, said that the department is considering many options for saving money in the penitentiary system. According to her, it is planned to sell one of the prisons, preserve it, rent it out, even to the point of introducing something like a rental service.

Ms. Pakosta added that the ministry is also thinking over the possibility of selling one of the prisons in order to make it a ‘social housing or a hotel’.
