Erdogan said there are no prospects for peace in Ukraine in the near future
There are no prospects for achieving peace in Ukraine – as stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, RIA Novosti reports
During his conversation with media representatives, Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that Turkiye has always stood for peace, dialogue and diplomacy. “Turkiye’s position on the ongoing war in Ukraine is unequivocal. Since its beginning, we have always advocated peace, dialogue and diplomacy. We have made great efforts to prevent further bloodshed. We have not aggravated the problem and not added fuel to the fire. We have tried to ensure that both sides met. Unfortunately, the war – which has been going on for 1.5 years – still continues, and there are no prospects for achieving peace on the horizon," the politician stressed.
According to the Turkish leader, ‘there are no winners in the war, and there are no losers in the world’. Recep Tayyip Erdogan also expressed readiness to ‘contribute’ to the settlement of the conflict, if the Ukrainian and Russian sides want it.
“We will also continue to play the role of mediator in such issues as prisoner exchange and the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. We hope that this war, which is damaging our two neighbours and our region, will end as soon as possible with a just and lasting peace based on international law," the Turkish leader concluded.
