Erdogan: Russia, US agreed to refrain from using nuclear weapons
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that, after contacts between the Russian and American delegations in Ankara, he received information from his intelligence chief that the parties had agreed to refrain from using nuclear weapons, RIA Novosti reports
It was reported earlier that the Head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, met with the Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, in the Turkish capital on Monday to discuss the problem of the detained US citizens and nuclear risks. Later, the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, said that the Kremlin ‘had nothing to say’ about the content of the talks.
"The information I received from my intelligence chief about whether Russia and the United States will use nuclear weapons here is that, at the moment, both parties will not make any attempts to use nuclear weapons," the Turkish leader said.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not share any other details about the contacts between Moscow and Washington.
