In her talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel, Ms. Eismont said, “We are now talking on January 31st and, while TV viewers are looking at us, the New Year's address has already been recorded. This is always a very difficult and exciting moment for everyone. Over a year, the President delivers many long, fundamental speeches, but, on this magical night – which is really a milestone that people are waiting for and when their eyes are focused on TV screens – it is very important to choose the most accurate words. It is necessary to cover everything: to congratulate, to thank, to emphasise and, perhaps, predict something, to place all the accents. After all, people really listen to each word and then analyse it for a very long time. Therefore, of course, the recording always takes place shortly before the New Year – especially at the present time, when it is very difficult to do something in advance," she said.
Ms. Eismont said that several variants of New Year's addresses are prepared, sometimes even a dozen of them. Meanwhile, the final version and final edits are overseen exclusively by the President. "It cannot be any other way. He says only what he wants to and what he has to say to all our Belarusians," she stressed.
As for this year's address, the press secretary said it would preserve continuity. "We have thrown a bridge from last year, being inspired by the theme of 2022 which was named the Year of Historical Memory. We want to show a little more our Palace of Independence which is really open," Ms. Eismont said.
