Egypt's FM: Netanyahu trying to obstruct ceasefire in Gaza
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to obstruct the efforts of the mediators for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, RIA Novosti reports
Earlier, Benjamin Netanyahu stated the need for Israeli military control in the Philadelphia corridor on the border of the Gaza Strip and Egypt. According to the Israeli Prime Minister, it is impossible to achieve either the goals of the war or the return of the hostages without this measure.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said it did not accept the statements of the Israeli Prime Minister made on September 2nd, since he tried to use Egypt's name through them to distract public opinion in Israel and create obstacles to the ceasefire deal and the exchange of hostages and detainees and to the mediation efforts undertaken by Egypt, Qatar and the United States.
The source stressed that such statements ‘further aggravate the situation and are aimed at justifying aggressive and inflammatory policies leading to even greater escalation in the region’.
