Economy Minister: Belarus works over investment projects for implementation in Russia’s Far East
Prospects for deepening co-operation between Belarus and the Far East of Russia were discussed during working meetings of Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov with the Director General of BELAZ JSC, Sergei Nikiforovich, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMKODOR JSC, Aleksandar Shakutin, and the Head of the Great Stone Industrial Park Administration, Aleksandr Yaroshenko, Belarus’ Economy Ministry reports
Earlier, following the results of negotiations between Aleksandr Chervyakov and the Minister of Development of Russia’s Far East and the Arctic, Aleksei Chekunkov, the directions of co-operation were outlined. The parties also agreed to prepare a portfolio of projects in which the two states’ enterprises will be interested.
“In the current conditions, there is an opportunity to increase direct supplies of goods and services and to implement investment projects in this region. In particular, our quarry dump trucks have already proven themselves well in this market. There are many deposits in the Far East, and Belarusian equipment could successfully master this niche," Mr. Chervyakov said. “However, this is just a small share of the existing potential: it is necessary to build new co-operative ties between enterprises and to stimulate implementation of joint projects – up to creation of joint ventures and subsidiaries.”
According to the Economy Minister, Belarus now needs to form a pool of promising investment projects for their implementation in the Far East. “Our Russian partners are very interested in the Great Stone experience in creating similar parks in the Far East. They are ready to finance joint projects and even create a special preferential zone. Projects involving Belarus, Russia, China and other states could be implemented on this platform for the common benefit. For its part, the Economy Ministry will assist businesses in working with the Far East,” he explained.
