Dutch FM: new EU sanctions to close European ports to tankers with oil from Russia

The European Union’s 14th package of sanctions against Russia will limit the access of tankers with oil from the Russian Federation – which the West calls ‘a shadow fleet of Russia’ – to European ports and services, TASS reports with reference to Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Slot

"Thanks to this package of sanctions, the shadow fleet will lose access to European ports and services," Hanke Bruins Slot said, adding that the Netherlands strongly advocated the introduction of such measures.

On June 20th, the Belgian presidency of the EU Council announced that the EU ambassadors had agreed on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia, and this sanctions package should be further approved by the ministers of all EU states, after which it will be published and enter into force. The Head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the 14th package of sanctions against Russia will be aimed at energy exports of the Russian Federation and will impose new restrictions on Western manufacturers for the supply of technology to Russia. As reported by Reuters, the European Union intends to blacklist 47 more organisations and 69 individuals as part of the new package, bringing the total number of its positions to 2,200.
