Dugin told what prevents to fully formulate Belarus’ national idea

When we try to reflect the deep foundations of the nation’s existence, we often resort to formal terms, and this is immediately off the target, because we take Western concepts that do not suit our East Slavic society – as stated by Russian philosopher and public figure Aleksandr Dugin during his talk with Belarus 1 TV channel, discussing how to form the national idea of Belarus

According to the philosopher, today the national idea of Belarus is embodied in its President Aleksandr Lukashenko, “The Belarusian leader embodies the predominant features of the Belarusian people and culture,” he underlined.

Speaking about the ideology of the Eastern Slavs, Aleksandr Dugin emphasised that the ideology of peace, balance, harmony, openness and friendliness is peasant, because the Slavs in their history were predominantly peasants, “Belarus retains this balanced psychology of East Slavic peasants. Your country has kept the key to a common East Slavic national identity. Thanks to the very delicate attitude of the President of Belarus to the identity of his own society, it was possible to defend it despite pressure from all sides.”

Aleksandr Dugin noted that Belarus has an ideology and a national idea, but they are not fully formulated, “It is difficult to do this, because when we try to reflect the deep foundations of the nation’s existence, we often resort to formal terms, and this is immediately off the target, because we take Western concepts that do not suit our East Slavic society. The concept of a nation is also a Western concept, as is the concept of a person: an individual. The concept of political power, even the definition of the word ‘political’ is also western. It should be understood that Western countries interpret all these important concepts in their own way. These norms are very ill-suited to the Eastern Slavs.”

According to the Russian public figure, the most difficult thing is to find a national idea and ideology, as new terms are needed, “New approaches and new ideas are needed. In order to break through to them, it is necessary to free ourselves from the pressure of the West, since what it leads to is unacceptable.”
