Duda: Poland wary of possible Russia-Germany Nord Stream deal
Poland is wary of a deal between Russia and Germany to restart the Nord Stream pipeline, said Polish President Andrzej Duda, RIA Novosti reports
Speaking of the recent phone conversation between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Duda said he doubts the call had been agreed with other [NATO] allies.
“I think it's a self-initiated action by Chancellor Scholz. Perhaps Germany is looking for an opportunity to establish contact. As the German press points out, the chancellor's office, the chancellor are looking for a way to reach agreement with Russia to return to energy contracts and again be able to purchase energy commodities from Russia,” said the Polish President.
According to Duda, Poland is a long-standing opponent of a solution like that, having been protesting those actions for years.
