Dubai to earmark about $35bn to expand Al Maktoum airport
Dubai authorities are investing 128bn Dirhams ($34.8bn) to build a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, TASS reports
“Today we’ve approved the design of a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport and ordered the construction of a building worth 128bn Dirhams to begin as part of the strategy developed by the Dubai Aviation Corporation,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and PM of the United Arab Emirates, said on X.
He also noted that the airport will become one of the largest in the world, boasting a passenger capacity of over 260 million annually. It is planned that the upgraded transport hub – able to accommodate 400 aircraft – will be equipped with five parallel runways.
“It will be five times larger than the current Dubai International Airport. In the coming years, all operations of Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it,” the UAE PM added.
