Sociology Institute Director: we record steady increase in interest of Belarusians towards history of their country

The results of the research conducted in recent years in Belarus indicate a steady increase in the interest of Belarusian citizens towards the history of their country – as noted by Nikolai Myslivets, the Director of the Institute of Sociology at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus

According to the expert, special attention is paid to the topic of preserving historical memory in Belarus.

“Over the past few years, in the course of the research conducted by the NAS Institute of Sociology, we have recorded a steady increase in the interest towards our country’s past and history. Both youngsters and middle-aged people are increasingly realising that the experience of the past is very relevant today,” he stressed.

Mr. Myslivets noted that the national cinematography and education system play an important role in this, and a lot is being done by cultural institutions.

“Archives, libraries, and museums are moving to a new format of work. Of course, another engine of interest in our past is the modern mass media, which play an important role in promoting national culture, preserving traditional values, and maintaining interest in the past. Everything is working together,” he added.
