Deputy: we must talk about peace and take steps to ensure it even in current difficult situation
Even in the current difficult situation, we must talk about peace and take the steps necessary to ensure it – as noted by Sergei Rachkov, the Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives at the National Assembly of Belarus, in his talk with the ONT TV channel
Answering the question of whether there is now an opportunity to negotiate peace and use diplomacy, Mr. Rachkov noted, “I would like to believe (and the position of Belarus and our President is proof of this) that even in the current difficult situation of world reconstruction and bitterness – primarily from the West – we must talk about peace and take all the possible steps to ensure it.”
“Belarus has always made a very serious contribution to building both the European and Euro-Atlantic security system. This was manifested in our activity at the UN, we made specific proposals to the OSCE, and our resolutions were adopted. A lot of peace-loving initiatives were put forward personally by the President of Belarus from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly. I’m not saying they don’t hear us. We are being heard, but we come up against the issues of national interests of certain states and – as is already obvious today – geopolitical interests. The world is being currently rebuilt, but the hegemon does not want to share its power, using absolutely all the tools, with the power element being actively involved in recent time.”
