Deputy PM: Belarusian-Moroccan co-operation enjoys inexhaustible potential
Belarusian-Moroccan co-operation has an inexhaustible potential – as noted by the Deputy Prime Minister, Piotr Parkhomchik, during his recent meeting with Mohammed Amine Cherkaoui, from Morocco’s Water & Energy Solutions
“We are ready for close co-operation with Morocco in solving key issues arising on bilateral political, trade and economic tracks. I think you will agree with me that the mutual trade turnover of $57m last year can be considered insufficient. We have a real opportunity to multiply our foreign trade, and Belarus always supports two-way movement in this direction,” Mr. Parkhomchik said.
The Deputy PM added that there is a possibility of co-operation in various fields, including agricultural machine building, “Morocco pays great attention to the issue of food security. The experience of our country deserves some attention. It sells almost $6.5-7bn of food and agricultural products abroad annually. Belarus ensures its own food security and exports surplus products to friendly countries.”
Mr. Parkhomchik noted that, despite all the present difficulties, the Belarusian industry is developing successfully, and its growth in January-August 2023 made 107.9 percent compared to last year's level – which was a very good result. The official added that Belarus' GDP reached 103.1 percent in eight months of this year, which was significantly higher than the economies of a number of European countries.
“In Soviet times, Belarus was viewed as an assembly line for many various products, which were mostly exported. At present, the country produces a wide range of tractors and components, in addition to passenger transport with internal combustion engines and electric motors. Our well-known BELAZ is among the top three companies producing dump trucks, and it has been the largest manufacturer over the past decade. Importantly, Belarus is building its trade relations on the basis of mutual understanding and respect," Mr. Parkhomchik summed up.
