Deputy Head of President Administration: Belarus-Russia Union State topics require special coverage
Belarusians and Russians need better information about the processes taking place within the Union State – as stated by Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Vladimir Pertsov, opening a joint meeting of the Belarusian-Russian working group on the reformation of the Union State media and the creation of autonomous Union State Media Company, held in Minsk on April 16th
Vladimir Pertsov recalled that over two years ago, Belarus’ President came up with an initiative to reform the Union State media structure and a working group, noting that since then a large amount of work has been done in this direction.
“We have a very clear understanding of what the Union State media are now. We understand perfectly well what we would like to achieve as a result of our work. There is a decision by the heads of state, signed in Strelna, meaning that we have no other options for the development of events. In this regard, we must realise everything that was formalised by the Supreme State Council resolution within the set deadline: the consideration of the charter of the Union State Media Company, the consideration of the draft resolution of the Union State Council of Ministers on reforming the Union State media, the discussion of approaches to the draft of an interstate agreement, which must be mandatory, since the structure being created is unique,” he asserted.
The Deputy Head of the President Administration underlined that nothing is impossible for Belarus and Russia, ‘especially in the current period of enhanced integration, the cohesive unification of our states and peoples, alongside general resistance to challenges and threats as part of sanctions pressure and other restrictions that are applied completely unfairly towards our countries’.
Vladimir Pertsov is convinced that during this period, people living both in Belarus and Russia need more information about the processes taking place within the framework of the Union State building, “They need more information about the humanitarian, informational, and human connections that occur every day and become ever stronger, about economic and political events, visits of regional leaders, governments, meetings of heads of state. All these require special coverage: situational and calendar-thematic, alongside a daily reporting to people, especially youngsters, about our wonderful countries.”
“I would like both the charter and the interstate agreement to include the principles that are stipulated in the 1993 Ashgabat Agreement, on the basis of which the Mir Interstate TV and Radio Company has been operating quite effectively for three decades already – as praised by the heads of state of Belarus and Russia. Without such provisions in the legislative act, we will probably not be able to ensure the effective operation of the Union State Media Company,” the Deputy Head of the President Administration stressed.
It was decided to set up a Union State Media Company during a meeting of the Supreme State Council in January 2024 in St. Petersburg. The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, issued instructions for its creation on November 4th, 2021. Since then, a working group was formed, comprising of specialists from the relevant ministries of Belarus and Russia.
