Deputy: every venue where Belarus’ voice heard is important

Every venue where the voice of Belarus is heard is extremely important – as noted by Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Oleg Gaidukevich in his talk with the STV TV channel

“What did all those countries which suggested leaving the CIS and not liaising within it receive? More than three decades have passed [after the collapse of the USSR], and it can be easily seen. They got nothing! All those who abandoned the CIS did not receive anything. They are losing the platform, the possibility of communication. Why do they say that the CIS is not necessary? This is not the position of their nations. This is not the position of most of the people who live there. This is the position of a state that is not fully sovereign,” the expert underlined.

The parliamentarian stressed that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, citizens were told that the West allegedly wanted 15 strong and independent states instead of the USSR.

“That’s a lie. They wanted to get a dismembered Russia and 14 dependent and economically weak countries around it that would be in a vassal position from the West and would fight against Russia. That was their goal,” the deputy explained.

He added that the CIS is a great opportunity to communicate and solve specific problems.

“I sometimes hear that it’s time to stop speaking at some international venues. This is nonsense! Every venue where the voice of Belarus is heard is extremely important,” Mr. Gaidukevich summed up.
