Date of first session of Belarusian People’s Congress announced
The first session of the Belarusian People’s Congress will be held no later than April 25th, 2024 – as informed by the Chairman of Belarus’ Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, before a CEC meeting, at which the average number of voters for an electoral district at elections of deputies of the National Assembly’s House of Representatives of the eighth convocation will be determined
Speaking about the upcoming election campaign, Mr. Karpenko noted, “After this important electoral campaign is over, we have about 60 days to hold sessions of all councils of deputies at all levels, nominate candidates and elect members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus. We will further need to form the Belarusian People's Congress, which means to elect its delegates from among the deputies of local councils and civil society structures. We are given about sixty days to do everything after the single voting day – so the first session of the Belarusian People's Congress should be held no later than April 25th, 2024.”
As reported by the CEC, the meeting will also consider issues related to the creation of the Youth Council under the Central Commission and the procedure for presenting the badge of distinction of the Central Commission: For Personal Contribution to Election System Development.
