Council of the Republic issued statement following OSCE PA meeting

The Presidium of the Council of the Republic, following the meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, issued a statement to strongly condemn the strategy of Western representatives during the session in Vienna – as reported by the press service of the Belarusian Parliament’s upper house

The statement says that the most important function of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is to promote the settlement of conflicts and the strengthening of peace. However, during the OSCE PA session in Vienna, the majority of Western representatives and parliamentarians of national delegations, as well as the leadership of the assembly supported the continuation of the war in Ukraine and the increase in arms supplies. There were no proposals on how to achieve peace.

“Members of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus strongly condemn such a strategy, which is incapable of leading to a peaceful settlement,” the statement underlines.

Moreover, it is noted that the growing wave of rallies in the EU countries, including Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and France, is evidence that European officials and parliamentarians do not hear their people when they promote the ‘war agenda’ in international and inter-parliamentary structures.

“The actions of Western politicians do not meet the interests of ordinary people, creating systemic socio-economic problems. We emphasise the danger of the approaches of supporters of the escalation of the conflict and urge them not to forget history and the tragic lessons of humanity in order to protect present and future generations from the threat of even more terrible and destructive wars. We appeal to the parliaments of all countries, the United Nations and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe with an urgent appeal to make significant efforts to ensure a broad constructive dialogue on international platforms, develop friendly relations between nations and implement initiatives in the interests of peace and security,” the statement concludes.
