Conservation Regulator of Australia investigating killing of 65 kangaroos
Australian authorities are investigating the illegal killing of at least 65 kangaroos, TASS reports
According to the ABC Broadcasting Corporation, some of the kangaroos were shot, others were hit by a car. It is clarified that the incident occurred near the city of Bendigo (Victoria). The dead animals were discovered at the end of June. Three kangaroos were found alive but were euthanized due to the severity of their injuries.
Local authorities said that two kangaroo joeys managed to survive and were placed at a wildlife shelter. An adult female was also rescued.
ABC quoted local wildlife rescuer Tania Begg, who saved three animals, as saying, “It was pretty horrific… they had broken legs, gunshot wounds, it was shocking. We found 15 to 20 in one spot.”
It is also reported that gun cartridges were found in the area.
