CIS observers over Belarus’ Presidential election start working on December 18th

The CIS observer mission will begin its work over monitoring the Presidential elections in Belarus on December 18th – as announced by the CIS Secretary General, Sergei Lebedev, before the start of a regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth

“Tomorrow, December 18th, the mission will start its work. The headquarters for monitoring the Presidential election – scheduled to be held on January 26th, 2025 – is already operational in the CIS Executive Committee. We have received an invitation from the leadership of the Republic of Belarus and are already forming this mission," Mr. Lebedev said.

The permanent representatives plan to discuss the work of the Interstate Council for Natural and Man-Made Emergencies in 2020-2023 and the main activities of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

The Russian side will report on the results of its presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2024. In addition, the participants will consider the results of the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government, which was held on December 12th in Moscow. Proposals for the draft agenda of the next meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers will be voiced as well.

The meeting will also focus on the preparation of a plan of joint events of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries in 2025 dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
