Chuvash Republic Head outlined promising areas of co-operation with Belarus

In his talk with journalists following today’s meeting with President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, the Head of the Chuvash Republic of Russia, Oleg Nikolaev, outlined the promising areas of bilateral co-operation

Mr. Nikolaev noted the existence of strong co-operative ties that need to be developed in various fields: i.e. in mechanical engineering. “This direction is very strong for both the Chuvash Republic and Belarus. In general, the development of the market in this segment is currently at an important stage from the point of view of ensuring the technological sovereignty of our states,” he said.

Among the promising areas, the Russian guest also named the chemical industry, which is traditionally strong for the Chuvash Republic, and the production of electrical goods. At the same time, he stressed that such an important area as humanitarian co-operation should also be developed. The same refers to culture, which has its own specifics in Belarus and the Russian region due to local traditions, but is also similar in many ways. “The issues of education and science, including patriotic education, are in focus. We have agreed to continue this work, including in the context of the 80th anniversary of Great Victory celebrations,” Mr. Nikolaev said.

The Chuvash Republic Head added that the existing co-operative ties need to be further strengthened, and new areas for interaction are to be developed, “Among them are the construction industry, competencies in the field of design, production of building materials, which are available in Belarus but have not yet been mastered in the Russian Federation, in the Chuvash Republic. This will enable us to explore new directions and reach another level of interaction.”

According to Mr. Nikolaev, healthcare and rehabilitation are also seen as very promising areas for co-operation. “They envisage mutual enrichment with the existing competencies and are, actually, a very important aspect of our further liaisons,” he said.

The Chuvash Republic Head emphasised that one of the main directions for today is to ensure technological sovereignty in all directions, including in the field of food security, “We have agreed to move along the path of finding not just strengths that would mutually enrich and strengthen us, but most importantly, combining them to create new modern products, which will allow us to compete in the market under changing circumstances.”

Mr. Nikolaev noted that all these areas need to be digitalised appropriately through platform solutions, “Intense work is underway in this sphere. The members of the Chuvash Republic delegation interact with their Belarusian colleagues, and we already have very interesting developments that are important both for public administration and for the administration of private corporations and individual enterprises, regardless of the form of ownership.”

In addition, as the Russian guest noted, Belarus and the Chuvash Republic are seriously interested in providing themselves with machines for various purposes. In particular, he informed that modern weaving machines have been developed in the region, and they successfully compete with all world manufacturers. “Our Belarusian colleagues are testing them for use now,” Mr. Nikolaev said.

At the same time, there is a need to seriously increase competencies in the field of metalworking. “This is a new direction for us, which we will definitely be engaged in. Here, the immediate task is not just to replace certain processes with imports, but to make sure that we really compete in terms of our capabilities in ensuring high quality and, if necessary, provide our partners who decide to interact with us,” the Chuvash Republic Head noted.
