Chinese scientists created antibodies against Omicron
Scientists at Fudan University in Shanghai have synthesised antibodies able to fight the Omicron strain of coronavirus infection and its possible new variants, TASS reports
As stated by The South China Morning Post with reference to a leading researcher of Fudan University, Huang Jinghe, the antibodies against Omicron have been synthesised from components of two other antibodies produced by human immune cells.
The initial aim of the study was to find ways to deal with other infectious diseases but – in the course of the research – it appeared that the created antibodies can resist Omicron and other possible variants of coronavirus infection.
The B.1.1.529 COVID-19 variant – named Omicron after the Greek letter – was first detected in South Africa in 2021.
