Chinese business ready to increase purchases of Belarusian sawn timber products at BUCE

Chinese importers of woodworking products are ready to increase the volume of sawn timber purchased at the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE). They are attracted by the opportunity to buy sawn timber products directly from domestic producers at transparently formed market prices, as well as a number of related services that simplify doing business in our country. This opinion was expressed by the management of a large Chinese trading company from the Shandong Province, specialising in the import and distribution of wood raw materials and wood products in China, during a visit to the BUCE headquarters, sb.by reports citing the BUCE press service.

It is noted that this year this company has already concluded exchange transactions for the purchase of sawn softwood lumber with a total volume of 11,000 cubic metres, and from 2025, it plans to participate even more actively in the auction.

“Compared to last year, we have doubled the volume of purchases: from 5 to 11 thousand cubic metres. Next year we would like to reach even higher figures, including by expanding the size range of sawn timber that we import from Belarus. Our company has been an accredited trading participant since August 2023, and during this time the exchange has become a familiar tool for us to work in the Belarusian market. Through the exchange platform, we interact with the leading woodworking companies in the country, and contracts are settled mainly in Chinese Yuan, which minimises all currency risks,” a representative of the Chinese company emphasised.

According to BUCE, in the first eleven months of 2024, Chinese residents were again among the top five largest importers of Belarusian sawn timber at BUCE. In January-November, they bought 714.7 thousand cubic metres of sawn timber products via BUCE, which is 1.5 times more than in the same period a year ago. The pool of Chinese buyers regularly participating in export trading sessions now totals 83 companies.
