Media: US Department of Defence to teach Open AI to shoot down enemy drones
Anduril Industries, which specialises in defence technologies, has signed an agreement with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI aiming to develop and implement advanced AI solutions for national security tasks, Reuters reports
It is noted that the focus will be on improving the US’ counter unmanned aerial systems (CUAS) and their ability to detect, assess, and respond to potentially lethal aerial threats in real time.
The system is designed to defend against drone strikes by detecting and intercepting them in the air. The AI models will be trained on Anduril’s industry-leading library of data on CUAS threats and operations.
According to media reports, the move comes amid a race between the US, its allies and China to develop AI-driven weapons that would operate autonomously.
