China, South Africa intend to strengthen co-operation in BRICS

In a joint statement following the talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Beijing, it was said that China and South Africa plan to strengthen interaction within the framework of BRICS and make economic development issues key on the agenda of international co-operation, TASS reports

It is noted that South Africa and China have agreed to continue to strengthen co-ordination and liaisons within the framework of the BRICS co-operation mechanism and work to achieve more practical results of the expanded BRICS membership.

China and South Africa expressed their intention to ‘actively promote the return of development issues to the centre of the international co-operation agenda’. In addition, it is reported that China highly appreciates the active role of South Africa in the ‘historic expansion’ of the BRICS membership.
