China launched world’s first 4th-generation nuclear power plant
China commissioned the world’s first 4th generation nuclear power plant – according to the information of the National Energy Administration (NEC) of the People’s Republic of China, TASS reports
According to the department, the Shidaowan high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) nuclear power plant, is located in the Shandong Province. The facility operated continuously in test mode for 168 hours and was officially put into commercial operation.
A statement posted on the NEC’s website reads, “This shows that China has reached the world’s leading level in the research, development and application of 4th-generation nuclear power technologies.”
The most significant advantage of HTGR is its safety in the field of electricity generation, and therefore such nuclear power plants have good prospects, noted China’s National Energy Administration.
