CEC Chairman: decision on holding Presidential elections to be made by House of Representatives
The decision on the appointment of Presidential elections will be made by the House of Representatives – as stated by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, in his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel
“Having held Single Voting Day, formed both houses of Parliament, elected delegates of the Belarusian People's Congress and organised its work, we are entering the preparatory period of the Presidential election campaign,” the Chairman of the Central Election Commission said. “In short, we are completing this important electoral cycle on the formation of all state authorities in accordance with the updated Constitution adopted at the republican referendum in 2022.”
Mr. Karpenko stressed that the election of the President will be appointed by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, “The House of Representatives will have to decide on the appointment, and – in accordance with that decision – the Central Election Commission will approve a calendar plan of organisational and technical measures, as is traditional. The processes of forming relevant commissions, nominating and registration of candidates, and, accordingly, the holding of the voting day will begin. Everything is developing in a traditional manner, no significant changes have been introduced into the legislation.”
