CEC Chairman commented on Belarusian People’s Congress formation
The formation of the Belarusian People’s Congress is proceeding dynamically and in accordance with the calendar plan – as stated by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Igor Karpenko, in his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel
“Judging by the information that we have, including thanks to mass media, everything is going quite dynamically and in accordance with the calendar plan that we have approved, and those norms of legislation that determine the procedure for electing delegates to the Belarusian People’s Congress,” the CEC head informed.
Igor Karpenko noted that, as a result, 290 delegates from each region were elected, and 60 deputies of the Minsk City Council of Deputies will automatically be delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress.
“In addition, 400 people are elected from five civil society structures. Each of the structures at its highest governing bodies – either a congress or a conference, depending on the charter – elects 80 of its representatives as delegates to the Belarusian People’s Congress,” Mr. Karpenko added.
