CEC Chairman: Belarus is in active phase of preparation for 2025 presidential elections
Belarus is in an active phase of preparation for the 2025 presidential elections – as stated by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, in his talk with STV TV
"An active phase of preparing this campaign is in full swing,” Mr. Karpenko said. “Let me remind you that the elections should be held no later than July 20th, 2025, and the decision is made by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. In the near future, we will begin appropriate consultations with the deputy corps. We have already prepared methodological recommendations and information materials. In short, the preliminary work has completed. We are now working over the visual concept of the election campaign, and it will be officially approved later. Together with the Foreign Ministry, we are deciding on which organisations and observers will be invited to Belarus. This is also a serious task, of course. Moreover, we are preparing a pleasant surprise for our young citizens who will cast their vote for the first time.”
According to Mr. Karpenko, the circle of international observers will be expanded during the 2025 campaign. “We plan to expand the range of international observers, including by inviting the central election authorities of the countries with which we interact within the framework of the International Association of Electoral Authorities. It is clear that we will not invite all 120 countries, but at the same time, not only the CIS members will be invited to observe the 2025 presidential elections,” he explained.
Mr. Karpenko added that Belarus’ CEC is actively invited to participate in election observation in other countries as well. "I attended the referendum and presidential elections in Uzbekistan. We visited the last parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan and the presidential elections in the Russian Federation. Moreover, in Russia, we do not just interact with its Central Election Commission: we liaise with territorial election commissions as well: i.e. of the Leningrad Region," he said.
