As noted by Ms. Mitkovskaya, COVID-19 is a sore point for her. “When it was just ‘starting’, we began predicting that the disease would become a problem for quite a long time. After all, the influence of this virus is systemic, unfortunately. Most people believe that it affects mainly the lungs, but at the very beginning of the pandemic, our Chinese colleagues said that the central nervous system was at a giant risk. In turn, American doctors noticed that the cardiovascular system was seriously suffering, and we registered the development of severe multiple organ failure in such patients,” she said.
The doctor added that there is another important point related to this disease, “Although COVID-19 may be asymptomatic in a particular person (based on laboratory diagnostics results), in-depth studies show that several systems are affected in such a patient's body. Do these consequences go away quickly? Many people say that they experienced weakness for many months. There is a theory that, in some situations, there may be a depot of this infection in the body, and it may progress if the organism gets weaker. Therefore, our main task now is to recuperate and accumulate strength. A healthy lifestyle will help reduce the likelihood of harmful effects of the post-COVID syndrome.”
