Canadians faced serious labour challenges, and situation continues to worsen

The unemployment rate in Canada has reached its highest levels since 2022, TASS reports

According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to reach 6.4 percent in June – the highest figure since January 2022, when it stood at 6.5 percent.

The report says that there has been a steady increase in unemployment in Canada since April 2023. It is noted that during this period it increased by 1.3 percentage points. In June, there were 1.4 million people unemployed in the North American country.

In 2020, before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the unemployment rate in Canada made up 5.6 percent while the peak occurred in May 2020 and reached 13.7 percent.
