Cairo, Amman rejected policy of resettling Palestinians from Gaza
The heads of Amman and Cairo rejected the policy of collective punishment of Palestinians, including the idea of their resettlement into Egypt or Jordan, TASS reports
The leaders of Amman and Cairo are confident that this poses a danger to stability in the regions. In a statement sent by the chancellery after a meeting and dialogue with King Abdullah II of Jordan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said, “[The leaders of the two countries] stressed that they reject the policy of collective punishment, including the blockade, starvation or displacement of Palestinians from their territories to Egypt or Jordan, and warned of the danger of these calls for regional stability.”
The parties strongly criticised the shooting at the Al-Ahli hospital and all attacks on civilians, noting the need ‘to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah checkpoint on a permanent basis’.
According to the Petra news agency, during their talks in Cairo, the leaders of the two countries expressed the opinion that ‘the continuation of the war, the expansion of [military operations] and the aggravation of its consequences will lead to the fact that the entire region will be in a dangerous situation that could turn into a catastrophe for it’.
